Digital Book Production Assistant (E-books)

As Scribe continues to grow, we are seeking additional Digital Book Production Assistants to work in our Dania Beach, Philadelphia, and Allentown offices. For those who are serious about a career in book publishing, we offer a learning environment where you can develop your skills and advance within Scribe. This position is the entry point to advance to several positions at Scribe, including editorial, production, and project management roles.
Initially, employees will learn the foundational elements in modern publishing. You will start performing data conversion, e-book development, XML tagging, and assisting with all aspects of book publishing. The employees will be trained in multipurpose publishing (electronic and print) procedures, proper use of computer technology to assist in publishing, and project management. As skills are attained, employees will be assigned additional responsibilities in project management, editing, print production, and e-book development. Compensation grows with added skills and responsibilities.

Training will be provided for all of the above.
Candidates must exhibit a strong attention to detail and have excellent communication and time management skills. We seek focused, highly organized, independent employees who seek a career in the publishing industry. We expect all candidates to demonstrate a thorough mastery of the English language (grammar, syntax, vocabulary) and solid computer skills. Preference is given to those who have knowledge of HTML and are bilingual.

Junior Web Application Developer
- Philadelphia, PA
Employee will be responsible for assisting in the management and development of all of Scribe's web-based tools and products as well as managing Scribe’s infrastructure and production environment. This includes work on database-driven systems using Ruby on Rails and Drupal.
- Assist with the development of all Scribe websites and applications
- Assist the development staff with bug fixes and version rollouts
- Respond to staff member queries and issues
- Support the development staff by running usability tests and providing feedback
Candidates should possess website development and maintenance skills, as well as some fluency with Linux (preferably Ubuntu) systems. Ability to learn quickly, attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines are essential. Knowledge of the publishing production processes is helpful.
Skills required include:
- Bash or a comparable shell
Skills preferred include:
- Familiarity with Rails and other web frameworks (Drupal 7 or 8 experience a plus)
- PHP experience
- React experience
- Experience with relational databases (MySQL preferred)
- Less/Sass experience (Bootstrap 3 a plus)
