Overview

We are currently seeking a Typesetting and Design Assistant for our Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, or Fort Lauderdale, Florida, offices. If you are excited by the process of book publishing, the position offers an excellent entry point and learning environment where you can develop skills and advance to several positions, including design, production, and project management roles.

We require a keen interest in the technologies driving print and digital publishing. In addition, you must be able to follow style manuals. The ability to use computers efficiently and the desire to develop technical skills are critical.

Initially, new employees learn the foundational elements of modern publishing: e-book development, XML application, book typesetting, and design. We provide training in multipurpose publishing (electronic and print) procedures, desktop publishing programs, proper use of our Well-Formed Document Workflow, and project management.

Compensation will increase as your skills advance and you gain greater responsibilities.

Duties

  • Typesetting
  • Design (book interior and graphic design)
  • Composition (applying structure to manuscripts and books)
  • E-book production

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • A focused, highly organized, and independent personality
  • Clear and specific interest in book publishing
  • Thorough mastery of the English language (grammar, syntax, vocabulary)
  • Solid computer skills (including familiarity with Microsoft Word)
  • Preference given to candidates who are knowledgeable in HTML
  • Preference given to candidates who are completely fluent in Spanish

Sales Representative

Overview

Scribe seeks a dynamic, technically savvy salesperson to help promote our services and Well-Formed Document Workflow. The position can vary from full-time in- house staff to remote representative. The structure of compensation is flexible, but is ultimately tied to sales success.

Scribe operates in an overly saturated and fiercely competitive environment. We have been successful because we bring a distinctive approach to the services we offer and our method to sell and market those services. To help maximize success, the Sales Representative will be assisted by Scribe staff, especially the other sales staff, in carrying out her/his responsibilities.

Duties

  • Represent Scribe to potential clients
  • Identify and pursue new areas of potential business
  • Coordinate with existing Scribe staff on proposals
  • Sell Scribe’s services and Well-Formed Document Workflow subscriptions

Qualifications

Candidates must be self-directed and prefer an open collaborative relationship with clients. We seek candidates who have a high degree of personal integrity, enthusiasm for new developments, and a desire to serve the publishing industry. Knowledge of publishing technologies and fluency in Spanish are preferred.
