The following are examples of changes the Digital Hub will make when Articulate Spacing Distinctions (or Articulate Spacing Distinctions for MS Word) is enabled.

Basic Rules

The Digital Hub will change the style of heads following heads and paragraphs following heads to an “aft” variant.

The Digital Hub will change the style of the first body paragraph of each chapter to pf.

The Digital Hub will change the style of block-level elements (block quotes, senselines, lists, sidebars, etc.) to the appropriate variant to control indentation and the space above and below each one.

The Digital Hub will change the style of block-level elements within other block-level elements (e.g., a block quote within a sidebar) to the appropriate variant to control indentation and the space above and below each one.

The Digital Hub will change the style of any block-level element to an “only” variant when it is the only paragraph following a head that is part of the same block.

Epigraphs

The Digital Hub will change the style of the first or only paragraph of an epigraph with a tail to epf.

The Digital Hub will change the style(s) of an epigraph without a tail to the appropriate variant(s) to control indentation and the space above and below it.

Structure Tags

Structure tags will cause the Digital Hub to treat consecutive elements as separate, changing the styles to the appropriate variants to control indentation and the space above and below each one.

Spacing Combinations

The Digital Hub will change the styles of elements with problematic spacing combinations to variant combinations that conform to best practices for controlling indentation and the space above and below each one.
